Encryption

The process of converting data into an unreadable format that can only be decoded with the correct decryption key.

Encryption protects data both at rest (stored on disk) and in transit (moving across networks). AES-256 is the standard for data at rest, while TLS 1.3 protects data in transit. Key management — how encryption keys are generated, stored, and rotated — is equally important.

Every major compliance framework requires encryption. Document intelligence platforms must encrypt uploaded documents, embeddings, and query logs. They can also help organizations audit encryption practices across their vendor portfolio by analyzing security documentation and SOC 2 reports.
